One of the most popular forms of
martial art is the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. This combat sport teaches you the
techniques for self defense, even when you are facing a dangerous person who is
double your size. Using the proper techniques, you can use this leverage
against a larger adversary. The actual jujutsu originated in Japan, which was
later modified into Brazilian form by the Gracie family. This modified version
contains devastating ground-fighting methods, along with stand-up maneuvers. You
can apply numerous holds, chokes, locks, joint manipulations, and a lot of
other things on your opponent and gain a superior positioning.
The belt requirements for
Brazilian jiu jitsu are dissimilar from the other forms of martial arts like
taekwondo or karate. After doing 7 to 9 belts, you reach the master level, for
other forms. But to get the Brazilian black belt, you only need to pass through
5 belts. The five different levels of belts in Brazilian jiu jitsu are – white
belt, blue belt, purple belt, brown belt, and black belt. You can achieve the
masters level proficiency in 8 to 12 years. This is the longest time taken for
martial arts. In other forms of martial art the time taken to reach the masters
level is less. For instance, in taekwondo, in this time period, you can reach
the black belt fourth degree stage or above. This means, a blue belt in
Brazilian jiu jitsu is equivalent to a new first degree black belt in karate or
taekwondo.
Earning a black belt requires you
to put more emphasis on improving your skill level. You need to represent your
technical abilities through regular practicing, drilling, and sparring. You
should listen to your instructor and repeat the drills over and over. As repetition
is the mother of all the skills, you will be able to train your whole body for
reacting properly in a highly physically challenging situation. You need to
train and develop your muscles to master each technique. So, only practicing
the drills would let you have the desired skills. Whenever, you meet with a
problem, do not hesitate to tell your instructor. Attend the classes regularly
and you will be able to face any type and intensity of challenging situation.
